SUMMER SOLSTICE Rune Stones: June 21, 2018

Today’s Soul Work and three runes spread reads from right to leftHagalaz (pg. 129), Uruz (Reversed) (pg. 100), and Algiz (Reversed)  (pg. 111) The Book of Runes, by Ralph H. Blum. I selected these Rune Stones on the Summer Solstice, June 21, 2018, for a special reading.

“The three rune spread reads from right to left. The far right Rune provides the overview of the situation; the center Rune identifies the challenge, and the third Rune indicates the course of action called for.” p. 50 The Book of Runes, by Ralph H. Blum.”

Far right: The overview of the situation: Hagalaz: Disruption, Elemental Power, Hail: page 129

“Change, freedom, invention, and liberation are all attributes of this Rune. Drawing it indicates a pressing need within the psyche to break free from constricting identification with material reality and to experience the world of archetypal mind.

The Rune of elemental disruption, of events that seem to be totally beyond your control, Hagalaz has only an upright position, and yet it always operates through reversal. When you draw this Rune, expect disruption, for it is the Great Awakener, although the form the awakening takes may vary. Perhaps you will experience a gradual feeling of coming to your senses, as though you are emerging from a deep sleep. Then again, the onset of power may be such as to rip away the fabric of what you previously knew as your reality, your security, your understanding of yourself, your work, your relationships or beliefs.

Disruption takes many forms: a relationship fails, plans go awry, a source of supply dries up. But do not be dismayed. Whether you created the disruption, or whether it comes from an outside source, you are not without power in this situation. Your inner strength—the will you have funded until now in your life—provides support and guidance at a time when everything you’ve taken for granted is being challenged.

Another of the Cycle Runes, the term radical discontinuity best describes the action of Hagalaz as it most forceful. The more severe the disruption in your life, the more significant and timely the requirements for your growth. The universe and your own soul are demanding that you do, indeed, grow.”

Middle: Identifies the Challenge: Uruz (Reversed): Strength, Manhood, Womanhood, The Wild Ox, p. 100

“Without ears to hear and eyes to see, you may fail to take advantage of the moment. The result could well be an opportunity missed of the weakening of your position. It may seem that your own strength is being used against you.

For some, URUZ reversed will serve to alert, offering clues in the form of minor failures and disappointments. For others, those more deeply unconscious or unaware, it may provide a hard jolt Reversed, this Rune calls for serious thought about the quality of your relationship to your Self.

But take heart. Consider the constant cycling of death and rebirth, the endless going and return. Everything we experience has a beginning, a milled and an end, and is followed by a new beginning. Therefore do not draw back from the passage into darkness. When in deep water, become a diver.”

Far LeftThe course of action called for:  Algiz (Reversed): Protection, Sedge or Rushes, The Elk

Control of the emotions is at issue here. During times of transition, shifts in life course and accelerated self-change, it is important not to collapse yourself into your emotions, the highs as well as the lows. New opportunities and challenges are typical of this Rune. And, with them may come trespasses and unwanted influences.

REVERSED: Be thoughtful about your health and do not add to the burdens others are carrying. Look carefully at the associations you form at this time. If you see fit to become involved with people who are using you, remain conscious of that fact and take responsibility for your own position; then you can only benefit. And yet, regardless of whether your enterprise prospers or suffers, do not be overly concerned. You may not win, but you will never lose, for you can always learn from what takes place.

Temperance and courtesy are the sinews of this Rune’s protective powers.

I had hoped for today’s soul work message to be more uplifting for this Litha celebration, but I sometimes channel my own emotions into these readings. That can’t be helped. As an empath, if I am feeling these things, then I know many other people do too. I feel like I’ve picked up on a range of emotions floating through the universe today.

I have been deeply disturbed by the images of immigrant children held in cages in the United States of America. The messages from the Runes sound bleak, but when you examine the words carefully you find a message there for all Americans.

We are in a time of disruption, beyond our control. A great awakening is occurring, and the fabric of our reality, who we are as a people, our beliefs, and relationships are being ripped away.

It is time for us to reflect inside ourselves and to ask what we as a people want for our country. We need to take care of our alliances and really listen to the words bandied around. Seek out your own truths. Do not listen to lies of hypocrisy.

We must raise our voices so that we are heard. We must protect those who seek protection because it is the right thing to do.

This cycle will pass if we stand up for what we believe to be true to ourselves and our country. So, mote it be!

“An oracle does not give you instruction as to what to do next, nor does it predict future events.” The Book of Runes, By Ralph H. Blum, p. 8.
